Roy Clovis has thrived in the television and film industry for more than 25 years, creating compelling and heartfelt stories through his work as a director, producer, and editor. Roy has recently focused his craft on editing thoughtful narrative and documentary projects.

Last year, Clovis edited the independent feature film, Our Father, the Devil which premiered at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival. The film—also an Official Selection of the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival—represents the third project in which he has collaborated with accomplished writer/director, Ellie Foumbi. The other two are short films: Home (2020), which he edited and produced for Netflix Film Club, and No Traveler Returns (2018)—featured by the Smithsonian’s National Museum for African American History and Culture. In 2009, Roy wrote, directed and edited The Cycle, a 16-minute short film that screened at the 2010 Chicago International Film Festival and aired for 2 years on HBO and Cinemax.

Clovis got his start at NBA Entertainment, editing I Love This Game promos and segments for NBA Inside Stuff. Later, at MLB Productions, he directed and co-edited Pride and Perseverance: The Story of the Negro Leagues (2009), a one-hour documentary that premiered on MLB Network. He also produced features for This Week in Baseball, and the Spanish-language weekly show Sabor a Beisbol. During a six-year stint as a Senior Producer at WWE, Roy developed programming for WWE Network. The 2016 documentary, WWE 24: Booker T, which he directed and co-edited, debuted at #1 on WWE Network.

Clovis is anticipating the upcoming release of Offsides Productions’ dark comedy web series, Normal Ain’t Normal, for which he edited an episode. He is currently editing an innovative short documentary, entitled Ellas Vinieron de las Nubes (They Came from the Clouds). Roy’s projects often grapple with difficult issues. The compassion in his storytelling helps the viewer create emotional connections to the characters, and to the social themes in his films.
