Jackie Robinson was ready to break baseball's long standing color barrier. Americans, seeing their country change before them, waited anxiously. None more so than the generations of Black baseball players who had pushed history to this very moment. Black athletes, no matter how great, had been exiled from baseball's biggest stage. Emboldened by the love of the game, they created their own stage: The Negro Leagues.
